Threshold Conversations

Faith Development for Unitarian Universalists

The faith formation landscape for UUs of all ages has changed dramatically in the last few decades. “Every so often, perhaps once in a generation, the pieces on the board of our denomination—the needs of our faith, the challenges of our faith—move substantially,” says Joy Berry, Children and Families Faith Development Specialist in the UUA’s Office of Lifespan Faith Engagement. “In this liminal time, we need to reconvene and regather to make sure we are getting all of the voices at the table.” We need to imagine a new way forward for faith formation.

To that end, Threshold Conversations is a project headed by religious educators from the Unitarian Universalist Association and other institutions such as the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA). The project aims to build on earlier work studying the future of Religious Education.

Through Threshold Conversations, participants seek to understand and attend to the emergent needs of our Unitarian Universalist communities—but also the needs of a complex world that requires our faithful attention, grounded in the values and principles we share.
